Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about our decking estimation process.

What factors affect the cost of a deck estimate?

The final cost of your deck project depends on several key variables. The overall square footage and elevation (height off the ground) are the primary cost drivers. Material choices—such as opting for treated lumber framing over metal, or composite decking instead of natural wood—will significantly alter your quote. Additionally, specific design choices like built-in seating, complex stair systems, custom railing styles, and local permitting requirements all contribute to the final estimated price.

What materials are recommended for deck construction?

For structural framing, we almost exclusively recommend pressure-treated lumber due to its durability and resistance to rot in northern climates. For the decking surface itself, we highly recommend composite or PVC materials (like Trex or TimberTech) for low maintenance and longevity. If you prefer natural wood, cedar or premium treated pine are excellent choices, though they require routine staining and sealing to maintain their appearance and lifespan.

How long does it take to build a deck?

While build times vary based on the size and complexity of the project, a standard residential deck typically takes between 1 to 3 weeks of active construction. However, you should also factor in the time required for finalizing your design, ordering specialized materials, and securing local building permits, which can add several weeks to the overall timeline prior to groundbreaking.

Do you offer delivery for materials?

Yes, we offer comprehensive delivery services for all your deck materials. We utilize specialized boom trucks and flatbeds to carefully transport and stage the lumber, composite decking, and hardware directly at your job site. Delivery fees are determined based on your project location's distance from our facility and the total size of your order.

Can you provide installation services?

We primarily serve as a premier material supplier and do not provide in-house installation services. However, we maintain strong working relationships with many of the top deck builders and general contractors in the area and are happy to connect you with trusted local professionals.

What is the warranty on deck materials?

Warranties depend entirely on the material type and the manufacturer. Most premium composite and PVC decking brands offer excellent protection, typically ranging from 25 to 50 years covering fade, stain, and structural defects. Natural wood products generally do not carry appearance warranties, as their longevity depends on proper ongoing maintenance and sealing.
